Diana Akikol concentrates on international arbitration and advises clients on contractual matters under Swiss law.
She has acted as counsel and advisor to foreign counsel in more than 40 disputes submitted to arbitration in Switzerland or abroad. She has also served as arbitrator (sole arbitrator, emergency arbitrator, co-arbitrator and presiding arbitrator) in over 20 proceedings involving amounts in dispute of up to USD80 million. Both as counsel and arbitrator, she has been involved in ad hoc (including UNCITRAL) and administered (predominantly ICC, Swiss and DIS Rules) cases governed by various procedural and substantive laws. She has particular experience in disputes involving sales, M&A, shareholders agreements, joint ventures, construction and engineering projects, agency agreements, licence and distribution agreements (mainly in the pharmaceutical sector) and maritime cargo claims.
Diana Akikol has been commended for her arbitration practice in the 2016/2017 editions of Who’s Who Legal: Switzerland and Leaders League. She is also listed in Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration – Future Leaders 2017, where she is praised for her “sharp legal mind, excellent judgement and clarity of focus”.
Diana Akikol regularly speaks and publishes in her field, including on setting aside proceedings before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court. She has published a book on the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and co-authored a commentary on the CISG. She is a guest lecturer at the Swiss Arbitration Academy (SAA) and teaches international arbitration in a master program launched by the International Training Centre of the ILO, Turin, in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of the University of Turin, the UNCITRAL and the University Institute of European Studies.
